Thank You, Alchemic Scorpio

11/15/2016

We are in the midst of Scorpio season marked with an incredible new moon on the 30th October.  A moon that touched so many deep strings in our psyche, it is  heavenly synchronicity that it coincided with celebrations such as Samhain.  This year it felt like if the moon had an agreement to delve deep and to allow all deeply ingrained patters to surface so that we can observe, integrate and release what is long due.   It is an act of honoring our ancestors, the stories that we carry in our DNA and having the courage to  bring them to light.  It was a calling to transform generational patters we do not want to repeat anymore.

We have labeled Scorpios with shady words, such as intense and manipulative.  We think of them as people who can absorb your time and energy and who we need to be careful with because hey they can “sting" back at you.  We misjudge them by believing we cannot trust them because they can be so secretive about what hey think and feel that we really do not know what is happening in their subconscious "underworld".   To some extent, those qualities are indeed related to Scorpio but as you already know, there is a set of gifts when Scorpio has descended to the depths of the underworld and merged with light.

Transformation, merging, transmutation, these are impressive gifts that the bearers of this sign possess. Scorpio does not fear darkness, the messy stuff or messy emotions.  They have like an inner compass to the underworld where others do not even dare to take a step towards the edge.  They have the courage to look into the darkness.  Any darkness, you can call it darkness of the soul,  depression, the unconscious, mysteries, taboo... Scorpio dares to tread where others don’t.  This amazing gift , to plunge into the profound waters of emotions and the psyche, the unknown and the ability to release and let go allows for true merging.  And in that action of selflessness the magic of alchemy  occurs.  Thus a monstrous dragon surrenders to death and rises as a fire phoenix.

In this world we are in dire need of Scorpio energy.  With this energy we are invited to  feel our pain, to face our demons, to embrace our shadow, to talk about what nobody dares to talk because it leaves us vulnerable ... because it makes us feel shame.  For it is by stepping into this threshold that we can let go and allow true healing to occur. This healing starts with the personal onto the collective.

This new moon in Scorpio brought just that, people are becoming more conscious about what is not told, our scars as wounded child/women/men surfaced.  Themes regarding to all the burdens that we carry whether personal, cultural or even historical popped up.  By bringing all of those untold stories, undealt with emotions, we let go of the illusion of control and surrender to love and acceptance.  We step into the space where alchemic healing occurs, we sever those strings so in freedom we can re-build our lives and future with love.

The full moon in Taurus brings the cycle that started with the new moon in Scorpio to culmination. Those themes that have been surfacing come to a closure in a way that is tangible, physical, palpable and very real.   A Scorpio friend, longed to finally sever ties with her past and manifested a new abode which she is celebrating with this new moon in Taurus.  She feels much more secure and protected and feels she can nurture her family in a more authentic way.  A moon in Scorpio in the 4th house of family, stability and tribe has been working relentlessly with inherited mindsets of fear in relation to sustenance and vocation.  By this full moon in Taurus she has manifested a job which is her stepping stone to all her creative projects.

In which area of your life do you feel has gone through a transformation lately?

What is that which lurks deep in your heart and is looking for a resolution ?

The invitation is to learn from the alchemic process of Scorpio.

On a side note, Scorpio rules the unconscious, sex, shared energy and resources.  Sigmund Freud, the father of Psychoanalysis and the first person to talk about the unconscious, his ascendant is Scorpio.  His moon in Gemini is located 8th house which is ruled by Scorpio too.  He verbalized  and documented the world that was hidden from us.  His legacy is vast,  he has given us a glimpse into our psyche, and mapped it out for us.  In his work he touched topics such as  repressed feelings, needs and sexuality which were labeled as taboo.

Discover the Energy of Libra in your Astrological Mandala

10/12/2016
by Admin Admin

Since every astrological mandala contains all 12 signs of the zodiac, each sign will give us a hint of how we express an area of our lives.  In order to tap into that energy I will invite you to follow us every month so that together we can explore and feel the energy of each sign and in the process, manifest the potential and talents of each sign.

We chose to start with Libra for it is a great way to acknowledge you, our Mandala Coffee lover, our Mandala Chocoholic, our Mandala Jewelry energy uplifter, our beloved community whom we share this sacred space online.  Also, this is Libra season, so to all our Libra friends we hope you have an amazing year where you can delightfully dance from one side to the other and enjoy the bliss within.  Shall we dance?

Libra is the first sign in an astrological mandala where another being comes into the evolutive consciousness of self, it is total opposite of Aries wherein the “I” is all that there is.  Libra is about “us”, about how you and me described as “we” can reach a middle ground or balance, but this middle ground is just a point and this point of balance can vanish at any moment in time.   By acknowledging another “one” Libra is all about taking two to tango. Thus the energy of libra is that of a dancer in the quest to find that mythical balanced point in each interaction, in the environment, in a piece of art, in time…

An air sign, Libra moves swiftly from one pole (feminine) to the other pole (masculine) while finding satisfaction in a balance point.  Venus rules Libra and thus to find the perfect harmony of colors, textures, shapes, energy, light and words are talents innate of those born under this sign.  Beauty for a Libra is that perfect balance that they look forward to achieve in every single detail.  Professions related to Libra include: interior designers, fashion designers, negotiators, ambassadors, events organizers, match makers, judges, dancers, choreographers, musicians, dermatologists and more.

How can you vibrate in a higher octave of the energy of Libra?  Libras love freedom, and they love to have a wide range of choices wherein they can float from one option to the other, however at some point a decision must be taken and if the “flight or fight” catches them up they might postpone that decision for too long.  The search for perfection might become such an impulse that nothing is satisfactory and the search becomes the goal instead of the process.  To tap into the talents of Libra it is important to understand that perfection does not exist and that balance is impermanent, that making a decision doesn’t need to mean losing freedom but instead the stepping stone of a dream.  Libras are invited to let go of the illusion of permanent balance and instead embrace nature of the feminine and masculine energies which spiral together beautifully in an eternal dance.

Your Astrological Mandala - You are not just your Sun Sign

Astrology has long been used as a tool for predictions , charged with a series of connotations that somehow made us feel that  life was pre-destined, pre-written somehow, that we the completeness of who we are can be described in just sign.  Or at least, that was the perception of what astrology was.

Astrology is a symbolic language and astrologers are but interpreters of these symbols, many.

For most of us, when we think about astrology the image of us scavenging for the horoscope appears.  There is this charm about horoscopes that even though we somehow know it might be generic we simply still need to read it, only to prove the prediction had nothing to do with us.
Astrology is a symbolic language and astrologers are but interpreters of these symbols.

Truth is, you are not just your sun sign and your life is still in the making, you are the representation of a whole Universe conformed by the energies that were present at the moment of your birth, it is not a forecast set on stone.  You are a magnificent being and these energies in your Astrological Mandala relate to each other in different ways, which in turn will express in your reality.  But there is no fixed outcome, for you can either choose to  vibrate with the positive qualities of each planet and sign or with the qualities on the other scope of the spiral.   The key is you, and the road to understand the energies that come into play is consciousness.

For example, by being conscious of the way you react when your fears arise can shine a light on the mechanisms of your natal moon.  By observing how you react and choosing to observe that pattern so closely and step out, you can tap into the talents of your natal moon.

What is so marvelous about seeing your astral chart as the mandala of your inner universe is that is ever changing and evolving, it is a map that gives us a glimpse into the unique life that is unfurling at any given moment.  If you think of it, our astrological mandala is formed by a complete circle, divided into 12 sections which we call houses and each house is marked by a sign, thus we are not just the sign where our sun is, we have the energy of all 12 signs whether you have planets in each house or not. There is not an area the will not be touched during your lifetime with energetic events (transits) that will trigger the development of your talents, the revealing of your purpose and your real self.

As an astrological language reader, I invite you to delve into the different energies that you express consciously and unconsciously and take the step towards understanding your astrological mandala, for richness and surprises await.  Namaste.

Yoga and Meditation: Capricorn Full Moon by Samara Kate

07/20/2016

This previous month has been an inward dive of soul exploration and nurturing. The Solstice taking us in, wrapping us up in darkness so we can explore the vast and intricate webs of our soul intertwining within our Self. The new moon in Cancer asked us to nurture our soul, taking time and space to show up for ourselves in loving ways.

After this period of nurturing comes this Capricorn Full Moon. The planets and moon have lead us through a beautiful cycle from the inward exploration of our truth and inward nurturing energies to align with our hearts. Capricorn is here with a jolt of inspiration, drive and creativity to say its time to explore ways to offer a piece of our truth, a piece of our soul out into the physical world. But this is no easy feat. We have a lot of self-gathering, exploring and healing to do.

“Spirituality is a process of rediscovery, and with Saturn square Neptune we can’t afford to keep our divine identity separate from our earthly one.” – Jessica Shepherd

The moon is illuminating the messy darkness and patterns that need resolving. There feels to be a sense of urgency as there are some powerful shifts coming to blossom us open, but only if we commit to our hearts now. This part of the cycle isn’t always easy, but it is so worth it to reap the beautiful blooms that occur after the digging, planting and nurturing cycle of your hearts desires is completed.

It is a sweet combination of continuing to explore the shadows but now being a bit more cut throat with shedding what no longer aligns with our soul. To align inspiration with our hearts desires and create from soul evokes a purging of the last pieces that are holding us back from doing so. It’s a time to explore the deeply embedded patterns that continue to surface into our awareness and finally break through to weave soul deeper into our being.

Reflect on any patterns that have surfaced for you recently that have evoked emotions of anger, sadness, frustration or a sense of being stuck. Be mindful of playing back into these patterns with your previous familiar habits. These emotions are like the branches to a deeply rooted pattern within our psyches. Until we do some digging to find the poisonous soil we have dug our roots into, we will not be able to shift our roots back into more fertile, loving and nurturing soil.  The surfacing of these patterns is like the Universe pointing a finger to what you need to change, where you need to dig and handing you the shovel to do the work.

Find the parts of you that have strayed from your truth, the roots that have branched off into spaces, projects, relationships or habits that drain your energy and disconnect you from your soul. The negative patterns always arise from roots that are planted in poisonous soil. As you shift or weed out these soul sucking roots, continue to come back to your foundation of love, of doing the work out of the highest respect and honouring of your soul. When we channel our energy to align with our soul, we can easily illuminate the roots that do not nurture the energy of soul.

As old patterns resurface, disconnect from the temptation of feeling into the experience as being familiar, as having been there before, and replaying the pattern out again in familiar ways. Instead step back, see this pattern as a new experience with a sense of curiosity as how to navigate your way through. Recognise that from moment to moment you are continuously evolving and growing. That this seemingly familiar experience is actually unfamiliar to the new depths of soul you are now moving from. This is your gateway to weave soul into new depths of your being.

While it may seem like a confronting and dark time, shift your perspective to gratitude. Gratitude that these deeply embedded patterns are weaving into your awareness, and from there into the sorting pile, what can we change and what do we need to get rid of all together?

Use your heart as the filter, the honoring of your soul to guide you in what to chuck and what to shift.

Have your desires act as a sift, only allowing that which honors your desires to sift into your life.

What is your next bold step forward? What is your soul calling you to do? Hold that dream, hold that intention, while you dig through your psyche and chuck out all that doesn’t hum on that same high vibration of your soul expression.

Get earthy and real about your situation. Is there anything that disconnects or feels icky to your soul?

Your home environment, your work environment, the way you earn money, the way you think about money, the relationships you have, the ways in which you feed your soul and how/what you invest your time and energy. Evaluate everything through the filter of your heart.

In the depths of your heart you know what you need to shift and what you need to shed. Sometimes it requires an inner energetic shift, a shift in perspective and way of being, and other times it requires a shedding. Sit with your beating heart, close your eyes and breathe into your heart space, it is there you will find the guidance of your soul.

Now it not a time to hold back. Your inner wisdom might be asking you to create big shifts or shed some serious stuff. However scary, however big of a leap it may seem, follow it wholeheartedly. The energies are asking you to create space for a huge period of birthing that we are approaching within the next few months.

From this space of nurturing we now begin to emerge into the new cycle of nurturing our hearts desires to soon come into fruition.

Capricorn is an earth sign and there is no better medicine right now than sinking into mamma earth.

Imagine yourself as the seed after the Winter Solstice burrowed you deep into the darkness. Now is the time to analyze the soil in which you are embedded. You are at the beginning stages of immense growth. Create the soil from that which will nurture you roots, set your strong foundations and detach from anything that plays no part in the evolution of your soul, begin to point yourself in the direction you want to grow and follow that path wholeheartedly.

Mantra:

Asato Maa Sad Gamaya (lead me from the unreal to the real)

Tamaso Maa Jyotir Gamaya (walk me from the darkness to the light)

Mrtyor Ma Amrtam Gamaya (lead me from the mortal to that which is eternal)

Beautiful interpretation by Clara Roberts-Oss:

May I connect to what is true, what is authentic and may the rest fall away.

May I honor all aspects of myself as I walk towards the light.

May I connect to that which is infinite, unchanging, within and without.

Yoga and Meditation:

Start your practice by staying low to the earth. Lay in child’s pose, connect to the beating of your heart and sync with the pulsations of the earth as she holds you. Flow in waves, cobra in repetitions of 3, spinal waves in repetitions of 3 before moving into down dog and sinking your hands and feet into the earth beneath you. Begin with low lunge (lowered back knee) sun salutations and stay for a few breaths, your finger tips connecting to the heavens and the earth pulling in your feet and your hips as you sink through your legs and rise up through your torso. Gradually move into warrior poses, gently push down through your feet and feel your strength. Align this strength with the desire of your heart, the drive you have to follow your soul wholeheartedly.

Sit in meditation and place your hands on your solar plexus (3 fingers width below the navel). Call all your energy back into your body. Begin to sink into the centre of your being, at the very core of you. From this pulsation of power in your belly, sink your energy down into your root chakra and beneath your sit-bones into Mama Earth.  Instead of pushing your roots into Earth, allow the her to effortlessly draw your roots deeper into earth. Surrender and allow her pull to take your roots deeper and deeper. Ask for guidance, ask your soul to guide you to know where you need to plant your roots within your life. Ask to be guided to know that which is true to you, that which you need to commit to and that which you need to let go of.

Coffee Sock: Old-School Filters that Save the Planet

02/18/2016
by Admin Admin

Coffee isn’t as green as we like to believe. Every time we use a paper filter, we damage our planet some more. Scary, right? And that’s without considering the emissions caused by the production of all those filters.

However, it doesn’t have to be that way. The paper filter is a convenient tool of the modern age, but in the past, cloth filters were used – and even today, you’ll find them in Costa Rica. By using a cloth filter, we can decrease the amount of trash and deforestation that occurs as a side-effect of our delicious brews.

But don’t go digging around in your sock drawer because there’s already a product on the market: the Coffee Sock. And we’ve even gone and tested it with a variety of brew methods, so that you don’t have to take a single risk.

The Coffee Sock: What, Why, & How

Coffee Socks: Also perfect for traveling!

The Coffee Sock, courtesy of the aptly named Coffee Sock Co., is an organic filter designed to fit various brewing devices.

How did they come up with this idea? Well, they ran out of filters and, as self-proclaimed obsessive coffee-drinkers, remembered Costa Rica’s typical coffee sock. An invention was born.

The Coffee Sock is made of untreated, organic cotton. Since cotton is 90% cellulose, a tasteless and odorless compound that is also insoluble in water, it won’t impact on the flavor on the coffee.

How to Use the Coffee Sock: A Guide

The instructions, in theory, are easy to follow. They also turned out to be pretty easy in practice so, rest assured, this won’t complicate your routine too much. Before the first use, boil them for 10 minutes. After every use, rinse them thoroughly to remove any oils. Not too bad, right? They will also need periodic boiling, but can last up to a year before they being replaced.

The Coffee Sock in Action: Chemex, V60, AeroPress, Cold Brew

As a coffee geek, I simply had to try the filters on different brewing methods. It’s worth mentioning that you do need a different sock for every type of brewing method; I selected the Chemex, V60, and AeroPress filters, as well as a DIY Cold Brew kit.

Chemex and V60: These two brewing methods had similarly positive results. I was originally a little worried that I might end up with under-extracted coffee since I noticed the water flowing faster than I would expect with a paper filter. Yet I couldn’t be more wrong: the end result was a clean, full-bodied cup with just the right acidity, according to the coffee’s origin.

AeroPress: This was a little more difficult, and the inverted method was a complete fail for me: by the time I wanted to put the cap on, I couldn’t close it because the filter was too thick. However, I next tried brewing it the normal way and, while I had to exert a lot of effort when putting the cap on, it was a success. Again, I got a super clear crisp cup with, when compared to the paper filter, an increased sweetness. DIY Cold Brew Kit: Despite being a cold brew virgin, I found the kit easy to use. In particular, the clear instructions on the different preparation times were appreciated. To summarise their instructions, just add coffee to the sock, close it, add cold water, and wait. Simple, right?

The Verdict

While some AeroPress users may find it requires a little too much effort, the Coffee Sock delivers an improved coffee and helps save the planet. For those of us too lazy for agar clarification, it’s a great option.
